Oil filter housing

We stock oil filter housings for a wide range of late-model BMWs. All of our stock is genuine, second-hand—mostly sourced from low-KM vehicles, but some are from changeover engines.

Common issues & diagnosis

Most BMW oil filter housings are partially built with plastic. These units are exposed to high temperatures—which over time can cause the plastic to warp or crack.

When oil filter housings crack they’ll leak oil. This will become visually apparent around the engine. If the leak is bad enough, it can cause symptoms such as low oil pressure or overheating.

The filter cap/threading can also be damaged by rough use or overtightening.

What is the part's function?

The function of the oil filter housing is self-explanatory—it houses the oil filter. But in addition to that, recent BMWs (later E-Generation and on) have integrated oil coolers into their housings.

How to determine fitment compatibility

Whilst many oil filter housings do interchange between different engine families, there are still different, non-exchangeable types.

The best way to determine fitment compatibility of a oil filter housing is to match the BMW part numbers from the catalogue. This can be done by decoding your vehicle’s VIN in a BMW EPC (electronic part catalogue.)

If you don’t have access to an EPC, provide our team with your vehicle’s 17-digit VIN—and we’ll check our stock for a compatible match.

Interchangeability between models

Oil filter housings are highly-interchangeable between models & engine families.
