The crossmembers in BMWs serve as a mounting point for the engine, rear differential and suspension. Crossmembers themselves are mounted to the body and are designed to to maintain alignment and distribute stress in order to provide structural rigidity to the vehicle’s body. They also provide a role in absorbing impacts to protect the body from damage.

How to determine fitment compatibility

There can be multiple, non-exchangeable types of both front and rear crossmember within any given model generation.

The best way to determine fitment compatibility of a crossmember is to match the BMW part numbers from the catalogue. This can be done by decoding your vehicle’s VIN in a BMW EPC (electronic part catalogue.)
