Helpful Information
This guide aims to provide 'general' information about BMW transmissions, such as common issues that we've encountered and tips on determining fitment compatibility.
The most common issue with BMW’s direct injection fuel injectors—which is basically all we stock now—is clogging. Clogging can occur due to fuel impurities or the buildup of carbon deposits—and clogged injectors may not deliver the correct amount of fuel, leading to engine misfires, reduced power, poor fuel economy and uneven engine running.
Fuel injectors are responsible for delivering fuel into the engine’s combustion chamber.
In direct injection systems—which are now standard in all of BMW’s internal combustion engines—the injector sprays fuel directly into the combustion chamber at high pressure. This allows for more precise control over the amount and timing of fuel delivery, improving combustion efficiency, reducing emissions, and enhancing performance.
Each model will typically have different fuel injectors for each of the engine types that it runs.
The best way to determine fitment compatibility of a fuel injector is to match the BMW part numbers from the catalogue. This can be done by decoding your vehicle’s VIN in a BMW EPC (electronic part catalogue.)
If you don’t have access to an EPC, provide our team with your vehicle’s 17-digit VIN—and we’ll check our stock for a compatible match.
Fuel injectors are highly-interchangeable. They will often interchange between different engine types that share the same fuel type, regardless of the generation or amount of cylinders.
