Common issues & diagnosis
The internal brackets in BMW door handles can break from rough use, or be damaged in collisions. Some of the earlier models—such as E53 X5—had issues with the metal mechanisms cracking (but we no longer support those vehicles.)
What is the part's function?
Most handles are just an opening mechanism, but some assemblies can include courtesy lights and locks.
How to determine fitment compatibility
Door handles are relatively generic, but within each model generation there can be different types for standard vs comfort access. The outer section is of course painted as well, but if you’re planning on painting it or swapping out that component it isn’t an issue.
The best way to determine fitment compatibility of a door handle is to match the BMW part numbers from the catalogue. This can be done by decoding your vehicle’s VIN in a BMW EPC (electronic part catalogue.)
If you don’t have access to an EPC, provide our team with your vehicle’s 17-digit VIN—and we’ll check our stock for a compatible match.
Interchangeability between models
Individual door handle components can be interchangeable between different models within the same generation.
